British Cactus and Succulent Society WELCOME TO THE
BRADFORD BRANCH
OF
THE BRITISH CACTUS
AND SUCCULENT SOCIETY
Founded in 1945

-

HISTORY

On the evening of 23 August 1945, four men from Bradford & District, all recently acquainted, Messrs H Roan, A Baynes, F Ives and V W Kane, met and discussed the possibility of forming a society. They agreed to finance expenses and Messrs Roan & Ives offered the use of company equipment and even staff to help with the job.

From this beginning the Yorkshire Cactus Society was born, grew quickly, and formed the basis for what has eventually become the British Cactus & Succulent Society. The Bradford Branch is justly proud that it was the first branch, and that Mr Roan had insisted that Mr Baynes from Shipley should be the Number 1 member.
